Liam Bromilow meets Adam Gordon prior to Ironman Busselton.

Ironman racing is an experience like no other. Ask any athlete that has competed in an Ironman race, and they’ll tell you the journey changed their life in one way or another. One such exponent of Ironman racing is On Ambassador Adam Gordon. Adsy, as he’s affectionately known, will this weekend make a return to the battlefield after a several-year hiatus, and race at Ironman Busselton.

“A new prospective and outlook on the little things has led to a great change in my racing this year!” Said Adsy prior to his race this week. “This year I’ve been attending to the little things like yoga, strength work and working on my mindfulness. It has led me to being able to be more connected to my training and focus more on the task at hand.” Racing professionally for several years now, it seems Adsy has finally unlocked the secret to getting the most out of your body both on and off the training paddock. “Preparing for ironman this time round has been exciting. I have been able to implement more specific numbers and target races when needed, while also taking on more work in my day job so my work-life balance has been more enjoyable.”

This weekend will have Adsy pitted against some of the best Ironman racers from around the globe. When asked about his mental state and confidence leading into Sunday, he didn’t hesitate to comment, “2015 has been a year of break throughs both on and off the field and racing with confidence in myself. I have embraced all aspects of my life and not missed a beat.” He uses his positive attitude to life for full effect on how he approaches his daily endeavours. “My theory all year has been that we are given opportunities. So why not be grateful and get amongst it.”

In 2015 Adsy has also taken on a role of coach/mentor to a squad of classy athletes, and it’s obvious his zest and enthusiasm rubs off on them. Anybody on social media can see through his comments and photos that his athletes, called ‘Adsy’s Athletes’, are electrified to be coached by him. “Whether working with an 84-year-old or a school-aged child, I honestly get goose bumps at watching these incredible people make a change or train to better themselves every day. It’s a feeling I cannot describe in words. It’s what gets me out of bed every day.”

He’s willing to give more than just his time in making athletes better themselves. He prides himself on the education he can provide. “Knowledge is powerful. If we share it and that’s exactly what I like to do, we can make the world an amazing place!”

On this weekend, Adsy is in a happy place and ready to roll. When asked about his strategies for the race, it was a simple answer. “My key to this race is nothing but pure courage, perspective and enjoyment. I am fit physically. I am fit mentally. I’m excited!”

If enthusiasm alone could get you to the finish line of an Ironman, Adsy would be a multiple world champion. But with Sunday’s race, he’s primed to take the event down to the wire.
